Harlequins RL - Joe Ridley replaces Danny Orr Print E-mail

A recurrence of a groin injury has forced Danny Orr to withdraw from the Harlequins RL squad ahead of this evening's match against Warrington Wolves at the Stoop. Orr's place will be taken by 19-year-old Joe Ridley who could make his Super League debut in the clash against the Challenge Cup winners.

Whiteley and Hutton into Hall of Fame Print E-mail

Hull FC legends Colin Hutton and Johnny Whiteley have been inducted into a hall of fame at the birthplace of Rugby League. The duo became the latest players to find a place in Stevo's Rugby League Heritage Centre at the George Hotel in Huddersfield. The centre is located in the basement of the George and is the UK's only rugby league heritage museum.

Widnes Vikings delighted with £1m profit Print E-mail

By David Bergin - Widnes Vikings have reported a healthy set of financial results to demonstrate the club's strong position for a Super League application. Accounts filed for the year to November 2009 show the club recorded a pre-tax profit of more than £1m on a turnover of £2.5m. This has been achieved while continuing to operate up to the Co-operative Championship salary cap limit.

Test for Selby Warriors in Pennine League Print E-mail

Selby Warriors ARLC will get an early test of their division three credentials when they kick off the Pennine League season on Saturday. The Warriors, promoted as division four champions, begin at home to Odsal Sedbergh (2.30pm), who finished third in the higher tier last season to only just miss out on promotion to division two.

By Nigel Brown - Leeds Rhinos winger Ryan Hall believes the Super League clash with Hull on Saturday will test their mettle after their Challenge Cup final loss last weekend. The Rhinos crashed to a 30-6 defeat to Warrington Wolves at Wembley and, with a top-four finish on the line for the Headingley-based outfit, Hall wants to see his team come through the other side and grab a confidence-boosting victory at the KC Stadium.

By Ian McCullough - West Tigers skipper Robbie Farah has played down any talk of a potential flashpoint with Gold Coast hooker Nathan Friend ahead of Friday's crunch NRL clash at Skilled Park. Farah and Friend traded blows when the two sides met in a bad-tempered clash at Campbelltown in round 18 after Farah accused Friend of trying to head butt him as they packed down for a scrum.

The ARL has thrown its support behind plans to set up an independent commission to run and administer rugby league in Australia. The ARL board met on Thursday where it was revealed plans for a draft of the new constitution, which will be required for the new structure, are already being prepared.

Gallop addresses Storm staff and players Print E-mail

NRL boss David Gallop has arrived at Melbourne Storm headquarters to address staff and players for the first time since the league threw the book at the club for cheating the salary cap. Gallop is currently addressing club staff, and is expected to talk to the Storm players following their training session on Thursday afternoon.

Peter Wallace to play against Canberra Print E-mail

Brisbane have received a late boost for Friday night's do or die NRL showdown with Canberra with halfback Peter Wallace to take his place in the Broncos lineup. Wallace - who is booked in for end-of-season shoulder surgery - has been cleared by Brisbane's medical staff and will partner youngster Ben Hunt in the halves against the Raiders in a game they have to win by at least 15 points to have a chance at making the playoffs.
