Toowoomba look at Q Cup resurrection Print E-mail

By Glen McCullough - A long-range push to have a Clydesdales team back in the Queensland Cup is underway. The Toowoomba Clydesdales have been missing from the state-wide rugby league scene since 2006 when the team was backed by the Brisbane Broncos. Without the ongoing support of the Broncos the financially- strapped Clydesdales folded and became a glaring absentee from the premier competition.

But Brothers president Jeff Nugent knows that will count for nothing if the team can't repeat their semi-final performance in the grand final of the Fraser Coast Rugby League competition at Eskdale Park tonight.

By Margie McDonald - The Storm's nightmare season will end when the full-time whistle blows at AAMI Park on Sunday, but the salary cap scandal is set to haunt Melbourne players for several more weeks. NRL chief executive David Gallop, who yesterday held his first face-to-face meeting with Storm players since the scandal erupted on April 22, said several could expect a tap on the shoulder from salary cap auditor Ian Schubert.

Chairman David Hughes is expected to allay fears for the club's future when he addresses supporters before the kick-off to their last match of the Engage Super League season against Warrington at the Twickenham Stoop.

Ben Westwood came out on top picking up three awards: Players Player of the Year, Supporters' Trust Committee Award and Player of the Year. The evening, compered by Angela Powers of Sky Sports, celebrates the achievements of the season both on and off the pitch with club directors, staff, sponsors, players and families, coaches and guests all joining together.
