JRLA University Championship - UTECH Knights defeat UWI Pelicans 50-10 in University Rugby League Championship - In a pulsating game at the Mona Bowl, UTECH blitzed UWI by 50-10. UWI suffered early injury setbacks to Italian enforcer Matt Biondi (finger) and Captain Donovan Jackson.

Biondi dislocated a finger when he attempted the first tackle of the game. His teammates seemed disheartened by the mishap and were further discouraged when Jackson had to leave the field with a shoulder injury. Their only bright moments came when Prop Kareem Smith, bruised his way to two solo tries.

UTECH pounced on their advantage and jumped to an 18-6 lead at the half. They were lead by inspirational player /coach kemoy Whyte who constructed two tries for himself. In addition, speedster Manning Marsh evaded the fringe defense on three occasions; twice he scored and on his third sprint was hauled down by the cover defense.

UTECH gained a strangle hold on the game using their giant props Jermaine Piggot and Stephen Hamilton to pound up the middle of the field. The UWI boys were visibly fatigued from constantly tackling the Props who combine at over 500 pounds.

Perhaps the man of the match though was Khareem Jhagroo, playing at Lock; he used his experience to constantly put the Pelicans on the back foot with some bollocking charges in and around the ruck area all game

The Championship continues on Thursday Feb. 11 when UWI will face GC Foster at the Mona Bowl.
